Mrs. John Cox Died Last Thursday After Year's Illness

Mrs. John Cox died at her home in Grundy Center last Thursday following an illness of a year from nephritis. She had been confined to her bed for but one week prior to her death.

Funeral services were held at the Catholic church in Grundy Center Saturday forenoon. Burial was in the family lot in the Catholic cemetery in Grundy Center.

Mrs. Cox was 73 years old. She resided in Grundy county over sixty years. Her maiden name was Rachel Place. She was born in Boston, Mass. A few years later she moved with her parents to Freeport, Ill., where they resided a few years before coming to Grundy county. The family for several years lived on a Grundy county farm.

For a number of years before her marriage, Mrs. Cox taught school in Grundy county. Following her marriage she and her husband lived on their own farm in Lincoln township, until they moved to town about six years ago. Mr. Cox died in 1931. Mrs. Cox continued to reside in her home in Grundy Center since the death of her husband, except a number months the past winter when she stayed with her daughter in Des Moines.

Mrs. Cox was the mother of eight children, five of whom are living. The surviving children are Elmer from Elma, Iowa; Jack from Dike; James from Grundy Center, and Vance from Des Moines. The only daughter, Mrs. A.N. Stackhouse, lives in Des Moines.
