Mrs. John Bakker Dies At Hospital

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Jan. 9 for Mrs. Martha Bakker at 1:00 at the home and 1:30 at the First Christian Ref. church, Rev. Bernard Visscher officiating.

Music was furnished by a Men's quartet composed of Arnold Eiten, Richard Schafer, Melvin Haupt and Larry Riebkes, accompanied by Mrs. Henry VandeVoort, Jr. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Ben G. Geerdes and Mrs. Claus G. Primus.

Pall bearers were Carl J. Nederhoff, Harold Eekhoff, Edward Eekhoff, Willis Bakker, Harvey Eiten and Alfred Eiten.

Mrs. Bakker passed away Wednesday forenoon, Jan. 6, at the Grundy Co. Memorial hospital of carcinoma of the lung. She had been ill for several months. She reached the age of 79 years, two months, and 12 days.

Mrs. Bakker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Eekhoff, was born on a farm in Shiloh township Oct. 25, 1885. On Feb. 13, 1908 she was united in marriage to John M. Bakker. To this union eight children were born.

She attended the First Christian Ref. church all her life, and was a faithful church member and member of the Ladies' Guild.

Preceding her in death are her parents, one brother and three sisters, her husband, one son and one daughter in infancy and one son 18 years of age.

Those who mourn her passing are a daughter, Genevieve, Mrs. Karol Powell of Oskaloosa, four sons, Edwin and Peter of Steamboat Rock, Manley and Lee of Wellsburg, six grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Helen Janssen, of Marshalltown, Mrs. Anna Ruter and Mrs. Adolph Deters of Wellsburg, two brothers Peter of Steamboat Rock and Henry of Kanawha and a host of other relatives and friends.

Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.
