Mrs. John VanDeest
Elizabeth, oldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Veenker was born on Sept. 10, 1887 near Holland. She was baptised by Rev. B. Vanderlas in the Colfax Pres. church. She grew up and spent part of her life in Iowa.
She married John VanDeest on Nov. 20th, 1907. They farmed northwest of Grundy Center then moved to Algona where he had a music store and oil station. After a few years they moved to a farm at Henning, Minn. and later on they moved to Albert Lea where they made their home for about 20 years.
Mr. and Mrs. VanDeest had the privilege of celebrating their golden anniversary a few years ago.
Mrs. VanDeest enjoyed fairly good health until several months ago when she became ill with acute leukemia and passed away at the Navel hospital in Albert Lea, Minn. on Dec. 22nd at the age of 77 years.
Funeral services were held Dec. 26th at the Freebarn Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. with Rev. Carlton Farshee, pastor of the Methodist church in Albert Lea.
Mrs. VanDeest was a faithful member of this church.
The body was taken to Ferree Funeral Home in Grundy Center where services were held at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Buschman officiating. Burial was made at the Colfax Pres. church cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter, Elva, Mrs. Joe Krog of Les Cruces, New Mexico, one son Alfred, of Anoka, Minn., six grandchildren, one brother, Harm Veenker, one sister, Ethel Mrs. Dan Jaenisch, Clara City, Minn. besides a large number of relatives and friends.
Relatives who attended services were Mrs. Joe Krog from Las Cruces, New Mexico, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred VanDeest, Steven and Jerry from Anoka, Minn., Wm. Hjerpe from Glenwood, Minn. and Mrs. Dan Jaenisch, Clara City, Minn.
