Howard Hammond Dies In Hospital
Funeral services for Howard Hammond, 59, were held at 2 p.m. this Wednesday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad, followed by burial in the Conrad cemetery.
He passed away at 4:30 a.m. Sunday at the Grundy Co. Memorial hospital, which he had entered the day before because of a heart condition.
Howard Hammond was born February 20, 1905 at West Union, Ill. the son of Mr. and Mrs. Orrin Hammond. The family moved to Beaman in 1913, and the deceased had farmed and lived in this area ever since.
He retired from the farm and moved to Conrad about 15 years ago.
Surviving are the widow, the former Ethel Hughes, whom he married at Marshalltown April 28, 1923; three children, Eugene of Grinnell, Mrs. Clayton (Alta) Carmody of Colo and Mrs. Richard Olson of Racine, Wis.; 10 grandchildren, three brothers, Andy of Beaman, Carroll of Grinnell and Duane of Jackson, Calif. and a sister, Mrs. Clyde Galloway of Nevada.
