Miss Marie Diekhoff died at the Grundy hospital at 2:30 Monday morning. She was stricken with a heart condition at her home in Stout two days earlier. The body was taken to the Engelkes funeral home in Parkersburg where funeral arrangements were made.
Services were held at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Reformed church at Stout. The service was conducted by the resident pastor, Rev. J. Hoekstra. Burial was in the cemetery at Stout.
Miss Diekhoff spent all of her life in the community of Stout. She had many friends. For several years she was a news correspondent for the Grundy Register, and in later years she was a news correspondent for a number of other papers.
She was born August 31, 1887, on a farm south of Stout to Mr. and Mrs. Oltman Diekhoff. She moved to Stout with her parents in 1911. She was baptized October 6, 1887, by the Rev. G. A. Veenker. She made public confession of her faith April 8, 1955. She faithfully attended Church and Sunday School at the Stout Reformed church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and only sister, Katherine Diekhoff Tapper. She leaves to mourn 3 nephews, Ted Tapper of Waterloo, Harvey of Grundy Center, and Otto of Stout, together with their families and a host of friends.
Editor's Note: As is being reported elsewhere Marie Diekhoff is a patient in the hospital in Grundy Center. The editor of the Register learned with deep regret the report of Miss Diekhoff's serious illness. Marie has been sending news from Stout and vicinity during the past 40 years. Her news has been regular every week and reliable. She has been a correspondent of The Grundy Register longer than any other and the publishers of the Register and the readers of the paper in the Stout Community will miss her fine news service. The news items below were sent to the Register by members of the church at Stout.
Since writing the above, we were deeply sorry to hear that Marie died on Monday.--The Editor.
