Mrs. J. B. Huisman

Mrs. J. B. Huisman died at her home in Wellsburg about eight o'clock Sunday morning. Advanced age was given as the cause of her death. She was 86 years old on May 15th. Her health had been failing gradually several months. She was confined to her bed only about a week.

Was a Grundy Pioneer
Mrs. Huisman was one of Grundy county's pioneers. She came to Grundy county with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Schultz, when she was 4 years old and remained a resident of the county ever since. Her maiden name was Mathilda Schultz. She was born in Ogle county, Illinois, May 15, 1863. The family purchased a farm in Pleasant Valley township and the Schultz children grew up there.

Married 66 Years Ago
Mathilda Schultz and John B. Huisman were married in Pleasant Valley township March 21st, 1883. The couple were permitted to live together for 63 years. The husband died three years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Huisman started their married life together on the home Huisman farm 2 1/2 miles north of Wellsburg. All of their children were born there. They moved to Wellsburg in 1915 and remained here until the time of their death.

Mrs. Huisman lost her eyesight about seven years ago. Aside from that her physical condition remained good until the last year of her life. Since the death of her husband she had an attendant with her all the time and during her late illness one or more of the children were constantly with her.

Five Children Survive
There are five surviving children. They are Mrs. R. H. Renken, Aplington; Mrs. E. G. Lowe, Waterloo; Mrs. E. E. Greany, Mrs. J. L. Fischer and Frank Huisman, Wellsburg. One son, Meint, died in 1936. There are 19 grandchildren. 16 of the grandchildren are grandsons. There are 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service Wednesday
Funeral services were held from the home at one o'clock on Wednesday and later at the 2nd Chr. Reformed church. Burial was by the side of the husband in the Reformed church cemetery. Rev. Joseph Vande Kieft, pastor of the First Christian Reformed church, and Rev. Edw. Jurgens, pastor of the Wellsburg Reformed church, officiated at the services.
