John Peters Dies Monday At Home

John Peters, a lifetime resident of this community, died at his home five miles northeast of Wellsburg at nine o'clock Monday night. He had been in failing health for some time. He was 83 years old.

Funeral services will be at the home at 1:30 on Thursday and later at St. Paul's Lutheran church. The service will be conducted by Rev. Roger Treadway, pastor of the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Beving Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

Surviving are the wife, one daughter, Mrs. Noble DeNeui; three sons, Jake, Rippey, Iowa; Henry and Edward, Wellsburg.

John Peters was born in Shiloh Township on June 3, 1878, to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Peters. He spent his early life with his parents on a farm northeast of Wellsburg, and attended the rural school of Shiloh township. He was married at Wellsburg on February 19, 1908, to Miss Rena Voss and settled in Wellsburg, but later moved to the country where he devoted his entire life to farming. In 1941 they retired and moved to their present home.

Mr. Peters was taken seriously ill several months ago and was taken to Allen Memorial hospital at Waterloo. Later he returned home where he stayed for a brief time before he was taken to the Evangelical Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown. He returned home on May 18 and remained at home until he passed away on June 26, 1961, at 8:40 p.m. at the age of 83.

Mr. Peters was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister and an infant grandchild. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rena Peters; three sons; Jake Peters, Rippey; Edwin Peters, Wellsburg, and Henry Peters also of Wellsburg; one daughter, Mrs. Noble (Jeanette) deNeui; two brothers: Anno Peters of Parkersburg and Ubbe Peters of Steamboat Rock; one sister, Mrs. Anna White of Austin, Minnesota; and 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
