Funeral Services For Ray Maddux

Ray W. Maddux, 76, died at 11:32 p.m. Tuesday, January 1 at the University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 5 at the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center with Pastor Theodore Ertie officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Strickler sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Blessed Assurance" accompanied by Mrs. David Perry. Casketbearers were George Sharp, Walter H. Miller, Roger Stachour, Elmer Boelman, Eldon Moeller and John Walbaum. Harold E. Wilson and Wayne Ralston served as ushers. Floral attendants were Mrs. Harold E. Wilson and Mrs. Dale Bee. Dale Bee, William Kuhlman and Roger Engelkes provided cars for the family.

Burial was held in Washington township cemetery in Grundy county, south of Morrison. Following the committal service, friends and relatives returned to the church for a period of fellowship and refreshments.

Mr. Maddux was born August 11, 1903, in Starkweather, North Dakota. He was the son of James William and Cora Mae Stong Maddux. On June 23, 1934, he was married to Grace Petersen at St. Joseph, Mo. They farmed southwest of Morrison until 1968 when they retired. They continued to live on the farm after retirement. Mr. Maddux was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers. Those left to mourn his passing include his wife, Grace; two sons, Dean Maddux of Grundy Center and Gale Maddux of Waterloo; three sisters, Mrs. Vera Nichols of Yelm, Washington, Mrs. Lucille Basford of Union City, Calif., and Mrs. Evelyn Parkhof of Tacoma, Wash., and three grandsons.

A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
