Services Held For Frank Smith

Frank Smith, 73, of Morrison, passed away Friday, May 11, at Covenant Medical Center on Kimball in Waterloo.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 14, at 10:30 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center, with Pastor Paul C. Nelson, officiating.

Angela Smith sang "The Gift Of Love," and Mrs. Ivan Slifer sang "Just A Closer Walk With Thee." They were accompanied by Connie Huffman, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude. Jill Lynch read a poem entitled "Epitaph."

Casket bearers were Jim Lynch, Dick Lynch, Mike Owens, Dave Owns, Paul Ehrig and Bill Cooley.

Howard Davis and Harold Lynch were honorary casket bearers.

Vernon Reinicke and Clarence Voss were ushers. Pat Lynch, Jo Lynch and Betty Bownes were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in Washington Township Cemetery, rural Morrison. Military graveside rites were conducted by the American Legion Post #242 of Reinbeck.

Frank Andrew Smith, son of Lenora Hildebrand and Wilson B. Smith, was born October 4, 1916, in Black Hawk county. He grew up and was educated in the Reinbeck area.

On August 2, 1939, Frank was united in marriage to Elizabeth Dingel in Waterloo. He was a self-employed carpenter, a fur buyer, and worked as a farm hand for area farmers for a number of years. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. Frank was a member of the Iowa Trappers Association, the National Trappers Association, and the National Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Elizabeth in 1955, one granddaughter, Chandra in 1971, one brother and two sisters.

He is survived by three sons, Don (Tony) of Grundy Center, Larry and wife Eileen, Morrison, and Gary and wife Carol of Holland; two sisters, Sylvia Frost and Evelyn Schmidt, both of Waterloo; one brother, Harold, of Morrison; four granddaughters and three great-grandsons.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
