Gerhard L. "George" Beenken, 78, of Lincoln, died July 15 at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Funeral services were July 19 at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. Burial was in the Washington Township Cemetery, Morrison. A memorial fund is being established.

Born on September 7, 1924, in Holland, Gerhard Lutjen "George" Beenken was the son of Lutjen Gerhard and Mary (Uhlenhopp) Beenken. He grew up in Morrison and received his education there. On December 23, 1956, he was united in marriage to Bernice Eckhoff. George helped many area farmers with their work. He then took employment at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo for a time, before being employed by the Rock Island Railroad. Most recently, he had been employed at the John Deere Company in Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother.

Survivors include his wife; three sons; three sisters; four brothers; and six grandchildren.
