Rites Held For Dorothy Peters

Dorothy Marie Peters, 82, of Wellsburg, Iowa passed away Saturday, August 31 at the Grundy County Hospital in Grundy Center of cancer.

Dorothy was born on January 6, 1914 the daughter of Wilbert and Amanda Wolken Gummert on their farm in Ferguson, Iowa. She was baptized into the Christian faith February 1, 1914 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dillon, Iowa. She was married to Edwin Peters of Wellsburg, Iowa on September 28, 1941. She and Edwin had four children, Richard, Paul and Mary.

Dorothy was a registered nurse graduating from the Evangelical Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Marshalltown in 1935. She was employed there for eleven years before marrying and moving to her home on a farm near Wellsburg. She was a life long member of St. John Lutheran Church in Wellsburg serving in many capacities.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Hazel, her husband, an infant son Richard and her granddaughter Jennifer.

Survivors include her daughter Mary Zimmerman of Wellsburg and husband Reverend Bruce Zimmerman; a son Paul of Wellsburg and wife Janice; six grandchildren, Sarah Zimmerman of Iowa City, Elizabeth Zimmerman of Mt. Vernon, Danielle Zimmerman of Wellsburg and Angela, Andrew and John Peters of Wellsburg; two brothers, Don Gummert and wife Reba of Grundy Center and Arnold Gummert and wife Evelyn of Gilman. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Jeanette deNeui and Naomi Peters of Wellsburg.

Funeral services were held September 2 at St. John Lutheran church in Wellsburg with interment at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in rural Wellsburg. A memorial fund has been established.
