Hiriam H. Dieken Died Saturday, Rites Tuesday

Hiriam H. Dieken, 66, died at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City early Saturday morning where he had been a patient since Tuesday, June 13.

Services were held at the Colfax Center Church Tuesday with burial in the Colfax Center Cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Van Curler officiated. There were graveside military services.

Music for the service was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Graves who sang "Until Then" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus". Mrs. Raymond Hinders was organist.

Honorary bearers were Verne Eberline, Jerry Peters, Wilbur Smit, John P. Kruger, Jake Heeren, George W. Schmidt, Alvin Smit and Charles Harberts.

Casket bearers were Tim Dieken, Mike Dieken, Marvin Groote, John Graves, John Paterni and Alvin Lutterman.

Mrs. Charles Thoren and Mrs. Marvin Werkman served as flower attendants.

Mr. Dieken was born in Lincoln township, Grundy County, March 23, 1906, the son of Jurgen H. and Minnie Groote Dieken. He served in the army during World War II from Jan. 29, 1942 to Nov. 25, 1945. He served in the European Theatre of Operations from Oct. 21, 1943, to Oct. 23, 1945.

He was married to Lillian Stahl Oct. 4, 1946 at the Colfax Center Church. They farmed in Lincoln township two years, then in Colfax township 13 years and then again in Lincoln township until two years ago when they became custodians of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church.

He was a member of the Colfax Church and the American Legion Post 349 in Grundy Center.

He is survived by his widow; one son, Jay, rural Grundy Center; two granddaughters, Amy and Audrey; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Graham, Wheaton, Ill. and Mrs. James (Anna) Griffiths, E. Chicago, Ind.; three brothers, LaVern of Holland, the Rev. Glen Dieken of Traer, and Irvin of rural Holland.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of arrangements.
