Mrs. Ken Remer Died, Age 44

Mrs. Kenneth (Jean) Remer, 44, died May 12 at the Schoitz hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 in the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jerry VanCurler of the Colfax Church and Rev. David Dupee, pastor of the East Friesland Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Mrs. Lillian Dieken was organist. A boys' quartet from the Walnut Ridge Baptist Academy, Waterloo, sang a number. The congregation sang two selections, "All The Way My Saviour Leads Me" and "To God Be The Glory."

Harm G. Hook and Harry Ascher were ushers. Floral attendants were Mrs. Joe Junker and Mrs. Charles Thoren. Casketbearers were LaVerne Boelts, Rudy Spieker, Edward Ubben, Jurgen DeBoer, Henry Duhn and Darwin Hofmeister. Burial was in the Colfax church cemetery.

Jean DeNeui Remer was born December 21, 1934, at the farm home in Grundy county northwest of Wellsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Lee and Gertrude Abels DeNeui. She attended school at Wellsburg and Grundy Center, graduating from the Grundy Center high school in 1952. She then attended college at the University of Dubuque, graduating in 1955. As a teacher she taught in the elementary grades of Conrad and Beaman-Conrad schools from 1955-1959.

On June 21, 1957, she married Pastor Kenneth A. Remer at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. They have since served pastorates at Albion, Iowa, Emery, S.D., and at the Westfriesland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley, since 1965. Two children were born to this union, Tim 17, a junior at Walnut Ridge Baptist Academy; and Beth, 15, a freshman at the Academy.

Jeanie confessed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour as a youth joining the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church Dec. 7, 1952. All of her adult life she has served the Lord being active in Sunday School teaching, women's organizations, etc., of the church where they have lived.

God called His servant to be home with her Lord on May 12, 1979, while a patient at Schoitz Hospital, Waterloo, after having several bouts with cancer since December, 1977. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Lee DeNeui in 1968. She is survived by her husband, Pastor Kenneth Remer, Ackley, two children, Tim and Beth at home, her father, Lee DeNeui, and sister Phyllis of Grundy Center.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of arrangements.
