Dick Thorne, 80, Retired Carpenter, Buried Saturday

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Wellsburg Reformed Church for Dick Thorne, 80, retired carpenter, who died Wednesday at Clear Lake.

Rev. George C. Poppen officiated at the service, assisted by Rev. B. A. Rust of the Britt Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Music was furnished by the ladies quartet of the church, composed of Mrs. Irwin Abels, Mrs. Raymond Beving, Mrs. Harris Peters and Mrs. Herman Stahl. Flower attendants were Mrs. Kenny Adams and Miss Hattie Neessen.

Casketbearers were Kenny Adams, Odie Olthoff, Anton Neessen, Gordon Junker, Aise Rust and Mart Boeke.

Dick Thorne passed away in the home of his niece, Mrs. Henry Oudekerk, in Clear Lake last Wednesday at 8 a.m. He had arrived in Clear Lake on January 18 after the death of his sister, Mrs. Harringa of Heyfield where he had stayed for the past 2 years and four months.

Mr. Thorne was born of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Thorne of Aplington, Iowa on October 9, 1878 thus reaching the age of 80 years, 3 months and 19 days.

He lived most of his life in Grundy county and in the Wellsburg area, where he worked as a carpenter. He became a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church on December 21, 1947.

Those who preceded him in death were his parents, one brother, Heiko, three sisters, Susie, Mrs. John Miller, Reka, Mrs. Herman Harringa, and Miss Marie Thorne.

He leaves to mourn Ben Thorne of Parkersburg, Fredrick Thorne of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Erstine Kvitten of Rochester, Minn., Mrs. Fred Gross of Wellsburg and a host of other relatives and friends.
