William E. Knock, Oldest Wellsburg Resident, Is Dead

William E. Knock, 91, died last Wednesday at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital of complications of his advanced age.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the home, and later in the Wellsburg Reformed Church, Rev. George C. Poppen officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Casketbearers were Elmer Ruter, Elmer Fritzel, Harold J. Okones, Harold Geerdes, Wilbur J. Knock and Jake Jaspers. Music for the service was provided by Mrs. George Poppen, soloist, Mrs. Harold Lindaman was organist.

Mrs. Richard Claassen and Mrs. George Hoodjer were flower attendants.

Obituary
William E. Knock was born on June 14, 1868, near Holland in Colfax township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eilert Knock Sr. It was in this locality that he lived and attended school as a youth.

He was united in marriage to Rena Jaspers on March 11, 1891, and this union was blessed with five children, all of whom preceded him in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Knock farmed in Colfax and Shiloh townships until 1917, when they moved to Wellsburg and where he continued to live until his death.

The deceased was a charter member of the Wellsburg Reformed church, and was the last surviving original member of the church. He served the church both as an elder and deacon.

Survivors include one brother, Enno, who at the present time is living in the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home but was a former resident of Grundy Center, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, who died Oct. 4, 1952, two sons, Jakie, who passed away in 1917 and Eilert on Feb. 18, 1957 and three daughters; Helen, as an infant in 1905, Elizabeth, Mrs. Gus Fritzel, on April 14, 1959, and Marie, Mrs. C. C. Neessen, on June 10, 1959.

Also preceding Mr. Knock in death were one sister, Mrs. Peter Kruse, a half-brother Harm and a half-sister Mrs. J. P. Meyer.
