Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 31, 1970 at the Reformed Church Fellowship Hall at 1 p.m. and at 1:30 p.m. at the Church. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was officiating clergyman. Music was given by Mrs. Robert Valentine and Mrs. Douglas Geerdes who sang two duet numbers. Miss Marcella Neessen was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Carl Heinrich and Mrs. I. J. Harms. Pall bearers were Clarence Aukes, Harold Aukes, Roger Aukes, Gary Kuper, Vernon Kuper and Mark ?. Interment was made in the Reformed Church cemetery.

Benjamin Harrison Aukes was born Feb. 5, 1889 north of Wellsburg, Iowa, the son of Dirk E. Aukes and Maria Sents. He grew up in this area and later farmed.

He was united in marriage to Flora Kuper on Feb. 15, 1913 at the home of her parents northwest of Wellsburg. They farmed north of Wellsburg until 19?? when they retired and moved to Wellsburg. Mrs. Aukes passed away on May 30, 1970.

He was a faithful member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church. On June 17, 1951 he was received as a member of the Reformed Church by letter of transfer from the Pleasant Valley Evangelical United Brethren Church.

On Dec. 29, 1970 he passed away at the Maple Manor Nursing Home at Aplington at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 24 days. He was confined to the Nursing Home since August of 19??.

Mr. Aukes leaves to mourn his passing five children, (Marian) Mrs. Jerry Kuper of Osage; Harm Aukes of Wellsburg; (Lorene) Mrs. Ray Evert of St. Cloud, Minn.; (Lois), Mrs. Lee Bakker of Wellsburg; (Iva Mae), Mrs. Charles Terry of Wichita, Kans. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 4 sisters, 7 brothers, 1 granddaughter and 3 great-grandchildren.
