Rites Held For Abraham Jaspers

Abraham H. Jaspers, 88, of Steamboat Rock, died Saturday, July 17, at the Eldora Hospital.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 20, at 10:30 a.m. at East Freisland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley, with Rev. Tim Olsen officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Abraham was born February 22, 1905, the son of Henry and Antje Wilts Jaspers in Steamboat Rock. He received his education at the Clay Township Country Schools and graduated from Steamboat Rock High School in 1923.

He was united in marriage to Esther Boyenga on August 23, 1933, on the family farm. He was engaged in farming.

He was a Clay Township Trustee, Clay Township Assessor and he was a charter member of the Iowa River Conservation Improvement Club. He was a member of the East Friesland Presbyterian Church of rural Ackley where he taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir for over 50 years and was a past church elder.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Florence Kannegieter; granddaughter, Deborah Sillato; and a brother, Abe in infancy.

Survivors include his wife, Esther; 1 son, Arthur of Ackley; 3 daughters, Lorriane Fritzel of Tampa, FL, Patricia Magnuson of Eldora and Janice Piper of Eldora; 1 sister, Fannie Aikes of Ackley; 11 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home of Ackley was in charge of the arrangements.
