Mabel Luwe, 80, Dies Of Heart Attack

Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel K. Luwe were held on Wednesday, February 14, 1982, at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church. Officiating was Pastor John H. Elenbaas. Mrs. Jonna Wagar and Wayne Wagar were soloists. They were accompanied by Mrs. Ron Benge. A hymn was sung by the congregation. Mrs. Clarence Beecroft was organist. Mrs. Janet Williams and Miss Ordie Beecroft were flower attendants. Pall bearers were Shelby Luwe, Steven Luwe, William Colville, Robert Colville, Randall Luwe, and Wayne Wagar. Interment was held in Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mabel K. Luwe passed away Saturday evening, February 20, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, due to a heart attack following hip surgery performed earlier in the day. She had fallen outside her home in Wellsburg on Friday morning the 19th and was taken to the hospital for treatment. She reached the age of 80 years, 10 months and 11 days.

Mabel was born in Wellsburg on April 9, 1901, the daughter of Sander and Kate (Voss) Ashing. She graduated from the tenth grade of the Wellsburg School and then attended the Grundy Center High School. On April 27, 1918, she was united in marriage to Henry L. Luwe at Vinton, Iowa. Following their marriage she made her home in Wellsburg while her husband served in the armed forces during World War I. Following his discharge from the U.S. Army they made their home in Wellsburg and lived there all of their married life. This union was blessed with two sons and one daughter.

Mrs. Luwe joined the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg on January 27, 1935. She was a faithful member of the Willing Workers Society of the church and also was a Sunday School Teacher for several years.

She was a charter member of the Ashing-Jaspers American Legion Auxiliary Post 213 of Wellsburg, and was active in this organization up until the time of her death.

Mr. and Mrs. Luwe were privileged to celebrate their 63rd wedding anniversary on April 27, 1981, with their family.

Preceding her in death were: her parents, three brothers, Henry, Albert and Edward Ashing and one grandchild.

Those left to mourn her passing are: her husband, Henry L. Luwe of Wellsburg; two sons and one daughter, Vinson Luwe of Wausau, Wisconsin; Mrs. Willis (Kathryn) Colville of Mason City; Leland Luwe of Wellsburg; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
