Arend Gaarning Dies At Co. Hosp.

Arend Gaarning passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 27, at about 11:15 at Grundy County Memorial hospital, due to a heart condition. He had been taken to the hospital on Thursday, August 31, for treatment. He reached the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 26 days.

He was born April 1, 1888, at Bellingwold, Holland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gaarning. On March 21, 1909, he came to the United States and settled in the Cleves-Ackley area. He later moved to Ackley and was associated with the Bunte Ford Garage, selling automobiles for many years. He last visited his family in The Netherlands in 1938 and 1939. In the spring of 1939 he came back to the United States and made his home in Wellsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by 3 sisters and 1 brother, all living in The Netherlands.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the Second Christian Reformed church. Rev. John H. Elenbaas was officiating clergyman.

Music was by Mrs. Wilbur Knock and Mrs. Harold Okones. Miss Irene Elenbaas was organist. Mrs. Gene Blythe and Mrs. Vernon Janssen were flower attendants.

Pallbearers were Gene Blythe, Virgil Claassen, Sam Boekhoff, Vernon Janssen, Dick W. Riekena and Bert Molendorp.

Interment was in Shiloh cemetery.
