Obituary Of Mrs. Emma DeNeui

Mrs. Emma DeNeui passed away Friday afternoon, February 27, 1976, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center due to a heart condition. She had been confined to the Extended Care Unit of the hospital since the fall of 1975. Mrs. DeNeui reached the age of 71 years, 3 months and 19 days.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, March 1, 1976 at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church. Rev. John H. Elenbaas was officiating clergyman. Mrs. Harold J. Okones and Mrs. Ivan Slifer sang two duet numbers. Mrs. Clarence Beecroft was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Gesina Nederhoff and Mrs. Lee Boomgarden. Pall bearers were Gerald Bakker, Gratus J. Geerdes, Jonas Geerdes, Jans Mennenga, Abe H. Jaspers and Melvin Nederhoff. Interment was made in Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She was born on a farm in Shiloh township, southeast of Wellsburg, on November 8, 1904, the daughter of Trieno and Alice (Geerdes) Riekena. She attended the rural school in the area, and attended the Wellsburg High School for one year. On August 23, 1934, she was united in marriage to Henry DeNeui at the parsonage of the East Friesland Presbyterian Church of Ackley by the Rev. Engelke. Following their marriage they moved to a farm in Hardin County, northwest of Wellsburg. Her husband passed away on October 16, 1959. Shortly after the passing away of her husband she moved to Wellsburg to make her home.

Mrs. DeNeui was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg having made profession of her faith in Jesus Christ on December 28, 1924.

Those who preceded her in death were: her parents, her husband and one brother, Raymond Riekena.

She leaves to mourn her passing: her daughter, Miss Joan DeNeui of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 3 brothers, Jake T. Riekena of Reinbeck; John T. Riekena of Wellsburg; Willard Riekena of Iowa Falls and many other relatives and friends.
