Genevieve Tjaden Dies Following Short Illness

Genevieve Tjaden, 16 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Tjaden, died at the hospital at Readlyn, Iowa, at 2 o'clock Friday morning from a complication of troubles all of which appeared to become acute at the same time.

First intimation of her serious condition came to the family a week before her death when she became suddenly very sick with appendicitis. Her condition was so serious that it was not regarded as safe to move her to an out of town hospital and the operation was performed at Readlyn.

The operation also revealed that one of the girl's kidneys was badly affected and that she had a goiter that had advanced to an acute stage. The goiter affected her heart action but no relief could be given as the girl's weakened physical condition, the doctors believed, would have made a goiter operation very critical. It was the failure of her heart to function that brought on the girl's death.

The body was brought to Holland on Friday and kept at the home of an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Buus. Funeral services were held at the home in Holland Monday afternoon and later at the Christian Reformed church at Wellsburg. Rev. Voskuil officiated at the house and the church services. Burial was made in the Christian Reformed church cemetery at Wellsburg.

Was Born in Alabama

Genevieve Tjaden was born in Alabama and she spent the early part of her life there. Several years ago her folks returned to Iowa, and for a number of years they resided at Bradford. They returned to Wellsburg last winter and Genevieve became a junior in the Wellsburg high school. She remained here until the close of school when she joined the remainder of her family at Readlyn.

Surviving member of her immediate family are her father and mother, one sister and two brothers, Dorothy, Russell and Mayo.

Genevieve was a lovable girl who was worshiped by members of her family and beloved by all who knew her. The grief-stricken relatives have the sympathy of all who know them.

Obituary

She later attended high school at Iowa Falls, Algona, and finished her junior year at Wellsburg this spring. She attended the Y. P. Society and Sunday school of the II Christian Reformed church of Wellsburg.
