John A. Ross Dies At Hospital
John A. Ross was born Feb. 17, 1870, in Shiloh township, northwest of Wellsburg. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert W. Ross. His entire life was spent in this community. In early life he farmed northwest of the village. For reason of health in 1911 he left the farm and moved to Wellsburg where he lived for the past 36 years. Mr. Ross never married, and both while on the farm and later in the village his mother lived with him till the time of her death. For a number of years he conducted a small business in the village.
In past years Mr. Ross' health gradually failed. A number of years ago he suffered from a stroke from which he never fully recovered. About May first his nephew, Rieke Ross, who had assisted him in his declining years, took him to the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown. Here he was cared for till the time of his death. He passed away Thursday afternoon, July 17, at the age of 77 years and 5 months. He was a respected friend and citizen of the community.
Mr. Ross was the last living survivor of the Albert W. Ross family and was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Evert, William A., Martin W., Henry and Heit, and by one sister, Mrs. John Eertmoed. A large circle of nieces and nephews and their families mourn his departure, and gathered with friends and neighbors last Saturday afternoon in the Second Chr. Ref. church to pay their final respects to the memory of the deceased.
