Mayo Tjaden Services Held

Mayo H. Tjaden, 81, of Wellsburg died Monday, October 20, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center of natural causes.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Burial was in the Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. Pastor Kevin Ver Hoeven officiated.

The Wellsburg Amvets Post #91 and American Legion Post #213 of Wellsburg conducted military graveside services.

Pallbearers were Stanley Hippen, Vincel Meints, Darrell Koch, Laurence Lutterman, Larry Bausman and Mark Wiltfang.

A memorial fund has been established.

Mayo was born May 25, 1916, in Wellsburg the son of Meint and Reka Tjaden. He graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1934. Mayo served his country in the military during WWII.

Mayo was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church, he was on the committee for the Shiloh Cemetery and the Historical foundation in Wellsburg.

He married Gladyce Gimer on March 12, 1941, at the Wellsburg First Christian Reformed Church parsonage. Mayo was a self-employed truck driver, quarry manager for Beu and Sons, sales manager for Mid-Equipment Corp. of Grundy Center.

Mayo is survived by his 2 sons, Darryl and wife Anne of Los Gatos, California and Doug of Wellsburg; and a grandson, Connor of Wellsburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladyce; parents; his brother, Russell; and 2 sisters, Genevieve Tjaden and Dorothy Tjaden Schalk.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
