Edith Groninga, 91, of Wellsburg, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2000, at her home in Wellsburg of natural causes.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 5, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church with burial in the Shiloh Cemetery both in Wellsburg. A memorial fund has been established.
Edith was born on September 19, 1908, in Butler County the daughter of Dan and Amanda (Schuck) Becker. She graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1926. Edith was a bookkeeper for Parkersburg Chevy dealership and Parkersburg State Bank. On January 1, 1956, she was united in marriage to Luke J. Groninga.
She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, baking, especially her angel food cakes for grandchildren and she loved her family.
Survivors include her step-daughter, Irma Lutterman and husband Lawrence of Wellsburg; two step-daughters-in-law, Gwen Groninga of Wellsburg and Barb Groninga of Edmond, OK; nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luke in 1985; her parents; two step-sons, Virgil and Bud Groninga; step-daughter-in-law, Virginia Groninga; and one sister, Vera Kalkwarf and husband Hank.
The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
