Babe Drowns In Jar Of Water
Jar Contains But Little Water
Edwin Kessler, Son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Kessler Falls Head First Into 10 Gallon Jar and Drowns.
Last night about four o'clock at the home of his parents near Fern occurred the drowning of Edwin Kessler, the two and a half year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Kessler, who formerly lived at Grundy Center.
Mrs. Kessler, who was Miss Lena Poppen before her marriage, had gone into the garden telling the children to come with her. Shortly after she reached the garden the baby was missed and the little girl was sent back to get him. She found him head first in a ten gallon jar sitting beside the house. Pulling him out at once she called her mother who came running but too late to bring back the tiny spark of life that had flown in the few minutes the child had delayed.
The jar was but half full of water and doubtless the child, looking into it, saw its reflection in the water and leaned over so far that it lost its balance and tumbled in head first where it was found a few minutes later.
The funeral will be held from the late home Friday afternoon at one o'clock. Mr. Kessler is a brother of Ben Kessler, of the Kessler and Bigelow firm. The parents are heart broken of the tragedy that has entered into their home taking from them their little one.
