EBERLINE, DENEUI, HARRENSTEIN

Verne L. Eberline, 70, of Wellsburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland. Pastor Larry C. Hoop officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Organist was Mae Hinders. Vocalists were Dwayne and Elaine Sents and Richard Schafer.

Pallbearers were Robert DeNeui, Mark Eberline, Paul Eberline, Curtis Harrenstein, Douglas Harrenstein, and Eldon Kruger.

Honorary pallbearers were supervisors Leland Arends, Elmer Willms, Bernie Eilderts, Don Schildroth and former supervisor Helen Kopsa.

Verne was born on March 13, 1930, in rural Wellsburg, the son of Ford and Rena (DeNeui) Eberline. Verne attended rural Wellsburg Country School and then attended Wellsburg High School, graduating in 1947. Verne was united in marriage to Orene Harrenstein on September 13, 1951 at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland. She is surviving.

Verne farmed in the Wellsburg area for many years, retiring in 1995. He also had been serving for the past 20 years as a Grundy County Supervisor. Verne was currently serving on the Human Services Board, the Mental Health Board and the Northland Regional Housing Board. He was also a Commissioner of Soil Conservation for Grundy County. Verne was a member of the Wellsburg Historical Society and a 50-year member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland. He enjoyed playing softball, golfing and was an avid sports fan. Verne enjoyed participating in his grandchildren's activities.

He is survived by his wife, Orene Eberline of Wellsburg; one son, Jerry (LuRae) Eberline of Wellsburg; one daughter, Janet (Dean) Feikes of Ackley; five grandchildren, Brett, Bryce, Blake, Lindsey and Tara; mother-in-law, Claradean Harrenstein of Holland; one sister-in-law, JoAnn Eberline of Grundy Center; and three nephews and one niece.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Virgil Eberline; and one brother-in-law, Daryl Harrenstein.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home, Wellsburg, was in charge of the arrangements.
