Clarence Arends Services Held

Funeral services for Clarence Jacob Arends, 79, of Reinbeck were at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 2, at the Colfax Center Presbyterian church. Burial followed in the Church cemetery. Rev. Larry Hoop officiated.

Clarence Jacob Arends died Tuesday, December 30, 1997, at his home of natural causes.

Clarence was born December 30, 1918, in Fern, in Grundy County. He was the son of Joe and Ordie (Rindels) Arends. Clarence grew up on a farm near Fern in Grundy County and attended school in Fern.

Clarence was united in marriage on September 2, 1940, to Anona M. Kruger of Fern at The Manse at the Colfax Presbyterian Church. The couple farmed all of their life. They moved to Dike in 1942, and farmed and they moved again in 1944, to Holland where they continued to farm. They moved to their present home north of Morrison in 1948.

Preceding him in death were his parents and an infant brother.

Survivors include his wife, Anona; 2 daughters, Sandra L. Henningsen and husband Richard of Grundy Center and Jean E. Eiklenborg of Shell Rock; 2 sons, Ronald D. Arends and wife Karen of Reinbeck and Jay A. Arends and wife Toni of Cedar Falls; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 4 brothers, Marlyn Arends of Dike , and Glen Arends, Lee Arends, and Darrell Arends, all of Parkersburg.

Hand's Funeral Home in Reinbeck was in charge of the arrangements.
