B. F. Freed Is Dead; Lived In County 71 Years

B. F. Freed died at his home in Grundy Center Saturday afternoon following declining health for a period of ten years. He was past 71 years old and had resided in Grundy county since he was six months old. Ten years ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis. He never fully recovered from this shock. He was sick only a week before the end came.

Funeral services were held at the Coffman funeral home Wednesday afternoon and later at the Alice church. The services were conducted by the Alice church pastor and by Rev. Oliver Stevenson, pastor of the First Presbyterian church in Grundy Center.

Obituary
Benjamin Franklin Freed, son of Adam and Susan Freed, was born in Lee county, Illinois, May 29, 1865, the youngest of a family of ten children, the other nine having preceded him in death. When Benjamin was six months of age the family came to Iowa and located in Melrose township, Grundy county. Here he lived the greater portion of his life.

On Dec. 23, 1889, he was united in marriage with Barbara Ellen Bockes. Grundy Center has been the place of residence since the year 1927. In January, 1925, Mr. Freed was stricken with paralysis from which he never fully recovered. It was only within the past two weeks his condition was thought of as being serious. His death last Sunday afternoon, July 26, came as a surprise to the community. When a young man he united with the Alice Church of God and continued his membership in that church.

The immediate relatives who mourn his death are his wife, seven children: Agnes St. John of Fort Dodge, Lloyd of Grundy Center, Howard and Ray of Whitten, Millard of Morrison, Bessie Loverin of Conrad, and Clarence of Sioux Falls, So. Dak.; fourteen grandchildren, besides a number of other relatives and friends.
