Services for Myrle S. Bockes, 94, of Hannibal, Mo., were held Saturday, July 15, at the Alice Church of God, rural Conrad, with the Rev. James Snare officiating. Burial was Alice Union Cemetery. Mr. Bockes died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at Fountain Court Nursing Home in Hannibal. A memorial fund has been established.

Born in Conrad on March 10, 1906, he was the son of Jerry S. and Emma Jane (Ralston) Bockes. He attended rural school in Grundy County. On Feb. 17, 1937, he was married to Dorothy E. Jones in Galena, Ill. A retired electrician, he had worked for the Corps of Engineers in the Aleutian Islands and for the last 20 years of his career was head electrician for the Corps of Engineers at the Dam in Hannibal, Mo., where he was instrumental in saving the lives of two boaters involved in an accident at the dam site. He was also a former member of the Y.M.C.A. and the Moose Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; one brother and five sisters.

He is survived by three sons, Jerry Bockes and Donald Bockes, both of Wapello, Mo., and Jim Bockes of Cameron, Mo.; three daughters, Joan Huston, Beverly White and Marilyn Watts, all of Hannibal, Mo.; a brother, Henry Bockes of Grundy Center; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Donald Bockes, Jeff Bockes, Jerry Bockes, John Bockes, Nick Watts and Mike White. Margaret Kline was organist.

Johnston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
