Funeral services were held for Mrs. Tena DeGroote, at 1 p.m. Monday, August 30, 1976, at Trinity Reformed Church of Allison with Rev. Edward Jurgens officiating.
Mrs. DeGroote died about 10 p.m. Friday, August 27, at the Waverly Hospital, where she was admitted early the same day. She suffered an apparent heart attack.
Tena was born the daughter of Jerry and Etta Nuis Boelman on Feb. 9, 1894 in the Netherlands, and in 1908, she came with her parents to the farming area near Parkersburg. She married George DeGroote on Feb. 12, 1913 in Ackley and they made their home on farms in the Parkersburg and Stout area. In 1947 George died and then Tena made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Etta Kuiper. She was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church of Allison.
Mrs. DeGroote is survived by her daughter Etta, Mrs. Herman Kuiper, Shell Rock, a son, Lewis DeGroote, Cedar Falls, two sisters, Mrs. Sabo Bolhuis, Yokun, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Rick Ooster, Waterloo, three brothers, Corneil Boelman, New Richland, Minn., Henry Boelman, Ackley, George Boelman, Waterloo, four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, one great-grandson, three sisters, and two brothers.
Mrs. DeGroote was 82 years 6 months and 16 days old.
