Edith Newton Called Home
Edith Newton, 94, passed away Thursday. She was a daughter of James D. and Rozella Mowery Kann, born Dec. 2, 1881 in Poweshiek county, Iowa.
In 1900 she married R. E. Newton at Brooklyn. They moved to Conrad 55 years ago. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors, and attended the Conrad U. M. Church.
Survivors include a daughter and 2 sons: Mrs. L. O. (Gladys) Patten of Earlham, Earle R. of Waynesville, N. C., and Clyde of Conrad; a sister, Mabel Johnston of Huron, S. D.; 3 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren. Mr. Newton passed away in 1942.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13 at the Conrad U. M. Church in charge of the Rev. J. Paul Stevens. Burial was in the Conrad cemetery.
Edith was a good person, a good neighbor, and a pleasant citizen. She was a good influence in her community, and will be sorely missed, but the memory of her will be cherished.
Mrs. Gordon Davidson, organist, played “In The Garden.” Casket bearers were Roger Newton, Kevin Newton, Clair Hochstetler, Gene Golightly, Michael Golightly and Anthony Golightly. Flower bearers were Hazel Berry and Vera Smith.

Rites Saturday for Mrs. Newton
Conrad—(Special)—Services for Mrs. Edith May Newton, who died Thursday at a Conrad nursing home, will be conducted by the Rev. Paul Stevens at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Conrad Cemetery in charge of the Johnston Funeral Home.
She was born in Poweshiek County Dec. 2, 1881, to James D. and Rozella Mowery Kann, and married at Brooklyn in 1900 to R. E. Newton. They moved to Conrad in 1921.
Surviving are two sons, Earle R. Newton of Waynesville, N. C. and C. D. Newton of Conrad; one daughter, Mrs. L. O. (Gladys) Patten of Earlham; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Johnston of Huron, S. D.; three grandchildren, nine great and four great great grandchildren.
