Betty Thoren Services Held
Betty A. Thoren was born September 27, 1926 in Ottumwa, the daughter of Art and Ann (Cavanaugh) Lolwing. She passed away on October 3 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, having attained the age of 65 years and 6 days.
Funeral services were held on October 7 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center at 10:30 a.m. with burial in Sacred Heart Catholic church Cemetery, Grundy Center. Fr. Gary Kraphl and Fr. Everett Frese officiated. Pallbearers were Chuck Thoren, Randy Thoren, Jim Copeman, Brent Harrenstein, Gary Harrenstein, and Randall Copeman.
Betty grew up and was educated in Grundy Center, graduating from Grundy Center High School. On October 20, 1945 she was united in marriage to Russell A. Thoren at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center. Betty and Russell lived in Grundy Center until 1958 when they moved to Boone until 1960. They then made their home in Grinnell through 1966 when they moved to Vinton. In 1978 they moved to Lake view, Arkansas until October 1987 and then moved to the Decorah area.
She was preceded in death by her father; stepfather, Gus Meyer; husband Russell in 1988; two brothers, Joe and Gerald Lolwing; and one sister, Mary Harrenstein.
Survivors include her mother, Ann Meyer of Ackley; four sons, Richard and wife Pat of Kansas City, MO, Donald and wife Mary of Oakland Park, FL, Steven and wife Cindy of Vinton, and Michael and wife Sandi of Vinton; one daughter, Mrs. John (Beverly) Streets of Decorah; and 5 grandchildren.
Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of arrangements.
