Services Held For Bernie Markwitz, 70

Bernie Markwitz, 70, died at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City on Friday, June 5th.

He was born March 2, 1917, in rural Conrad to John P. and Elizabeth Hundertmark Markwitz.

He attended school in Conrad and was a member of the Conrad United Methodist Church. He was a retired sheet metal worker having worked at Ritchie Industries in Conrad for 29 years. He was a member of the Conrad American Legion Post #681.

He was married to Darlene M. Howell, February 22, 1947, at Conrad.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene; two sons, Larry L. Markwitz and Roger D. Markwitz, both of Marshalltown; one daughter, Connie (Mrs. Lynn) Finers, Conrad; a twin sister, Bernice (Mrs. Merle) Stover, Iowa Falls; one brother, George Markwitz, IVH in Marshalltown; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.

Services were held Monday, June 8, at the Liscomb Church of Christ with the Rev. Helmer Peterson officiating. Casket bearers were Donald Slinker, Terry Markwitz, Gerry Grover, John Wood, Herschel Carnes and Gary Moler.

Burial was in the Conrad Cemetery with military rites by the Conrad American Legion Post #681. Johnston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
