Sleeping Sickness Is Fatal To A Grundy Center Baby

Carol Jean Van Hauen, 10-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Menno Van Hauen, Jr., died of encephalitis, a form of sleeping sickness, at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday in Deaconess hospital, Marshalltown, Iowa. She had been ill four weeks.

The baby was born last Nov. 6 near Grundy Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon in the Holland Reformed church by Rev. Peter Eldersveld. Burial will be in Grundy Center.

Surviving are the parents; a brother Lawrence 3; the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Menno Van Hauen, Sr., Parkersburg, Iowa, and Mrs. and Mrs. Henry Johnson, Wellsburg, Iowa.
