Mrs. Henry J. Smit Dies of Pneumonia Tuesday Morning

Mrs. Henry J. Smit of near Holland died of pneumonia Tuesday morning at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since Sunday. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are her husband; three children, Alvin of Holland, Mrs. Bernard A. Engelkes of Holland, and Donald of Sparks, Nevada; her mother, Mrs. Rena Maas of Wellsburg; three sisters, Mrs. Janet Rademaker of Wellsburg, Mrs. Tom Heronimus of Holland, and Mrs. Jerry Molendorp of Wellsburg; and one brother, John of Cedar Falls.

Mrs. Smit was born September 3, 1900 to Mr. and Mrs. John Maas of Wellsburg. She lived with her parents on a farm in Colfax township and attended rural schools in the area.

On June 29, 1921, she was united in marriage to Henry J. Smit and the couple lived on the same farm in Colfax township the past 42 years. Mrs. Smit was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, an infant brother and an infant son.
