Carl V. Janssen Succumbs to Long Illness Thursday
Ackley--Carl V. Janssen succumbed to a long illness Thursday afternoon October 31, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Funeral services, conducted by William Seybert, were held at the West Friesland Presbyterian Church Monday at 1:30 p.m., following prayer service at the family home. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Carl V. Janssen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Venno A. Janssen, was born March 9, 1911, in German township, Grundy county, and grew to manhood in this community.
On January 9, 1935 he and Miss Etta Kruger were married and they began housekeeping on their present farm, three miles east of Ackley. For a number of years, while farming, Mr. Janssen was also caretaker of the West Friesland Church cemetery.
In 1954, he quit farming and began working for the Farmers Co-op Elevator Company. He had been in failing health for the past year, and had been hospitalized several times, but continued to make a courageous fight for his life until the end.
Mr. Janssen leaves his wife, Etta; five children, Calvin of Chandler, Arizona; Dorothy (Mrs. Lowell Eltjes) of Aplington; Shirley, (Mrs. Gerald Gay) of Waterloo; and Dennis and Duane at home; six grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters, Henry of Wellsburg; Sadie (Mrs. Jake Nevenhoven) of Aplington; Mrs. Nancy Miller; Helena (Mrs. Lester Jansonius), Isebrandt, John and Wallace, all of Ackley. He was preceded in death by his parents.
