Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Vanderwerf

Funeral services were held in the Eastfriesland Presbyterian church at Ackley, on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 24, 1942 for Mrs. Jennie Vanderwerf, age 93, who passed away January 21. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Relatives from a distance attending the services included Mr. and Mrs. Sam Vanderwerf, Sleepy Eye, Minn.; Mrs. Dick Vanderwerf, Lafayette, Minn.; and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Vanderwerf, Springfield, Minn.

Pallbearers were six nephews: Peter C., Casjen C., Willie P., Peter S., and Chester P. Vanderwerf.

Mrs. Jennie Vanderwerf was born in Germany on Sept. 9, 1848. While still in Germany she was united in marriage with Wilke P. Vanderwerf. Later she and her family came to America. In this country they made their home for a long time in German township, Grundy county, Iowa.

On January 31, 1930, her husband was called from her side. After that she first lived in Ackley and later went to the convalescent home of Miss Hattie Ostergaard, at Dike.

In 1908, she and her husband joined the Eastfriesland Presbyterian church at Ackley. She remained a member of this church until the time of her death, even though in late years she could not attend the services, due to infirmities of old age.

Mrs. Vanderwerf was called out of this life on Wednesday morning, January 21, 1942. She thus attained the ripe old age of 93 years, 4 months and 12 days.

Deceased is survived by 3 sons, Peter of Springfield, Minn., Dick of Lafayette, Minn., and Sam of Sleepy Eye, Minn., 32 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
