Donald W. "Mike" McAntire, 82, of Wellsburg, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2012 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 26th at 2:00 P.M. at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 25th, from 5 to 7 P.M. at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home. Interment will be private. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Mike was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on March 17, 1930, the son of David F. & Naomi (Cox) McAntire. He grew up in Ottumwa, where he attended school. . On July 21, 1951, Mike was united in marriage to Norma Jean Helmick at the Congregational church in Ottumwa. Mike honorably served his country in the United States Army and was in the Reserves for 14 years. The couple welcomed four children into their family. In recent years, Mike began work as a manager of a wholesale beverage company in Omaha. He retired from Stanek Distributing in Omaha in 1990.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #38 in Nebraska. Mike enjoyed woodworking, doing yard work, watching birds and traveling with his wife Jean in their motor home to visit friends and family.

Mike is survived by his wife Jean of Wellsburg; children Beth (Gregg) Pederson of Waterloo, Susan (Kevin) MacDonald of Omaha & Pat (Sue Jans) of Wellsburg; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-granddaughters and 1 great-grandson; a brother Dwayne "Red" (Betty) McAntire of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Joan Reed and grandson Lyle David Reed.
