RITES HELD FOR JOHN HARRENSTEIN

John Harrenstein, 82, Kamrar, died February 8, 1996, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. at the Community Church, east of Kamrar, with Dr. Craig Bex and Rev. David Beals officiating. Burial was held at the Community Cemetery.

John Harrenstein, son of Albertus and Margaret Meints Harrenstein, was born February 6, 1914 on a farm east of Wellsburg in Colfax Township. He attended rural schools in that area. On November 14, 1942 he was united in marriage to Lauretta Van Langen in Des Moines. The couple resided in Kamrar. For several years he was employed by Hamilton County in road maintenance. For 33 years, he was employed as a tank wagon driver for the Kamrar Cooperative Elevator. He retired in 1979. He moved to Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake in 1989 and to Southfield Center in Webster City in November of 1990.

He is survived by his wife Lauretta Harrenstein, Kamrar; sons and daughter-in-law Douglas and Dorothy Harrenstein, Clear Lake, Curtis and Judy Harrenstein, Webster City; daughter and son-in-law Joan and Allen Geilenfeld, Clear Lake; grandchildren, Rebecca Salge, John, Joe and Marcus Harrenstein, Andrew, Rachel, and Hannah Geilenfeld; sister Ordean Starr, Wellsburg; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Herman Harrenstein.

Mr. Harrenstein was a member of the Community Church of Kamrar.
