KONICHEK, John 1903-1987

John Albert Konichek passed away on Tuesday, January 13, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist church, West Union, on Thursday, January 15, at 11 a.m. Dr. Herbert Foxworthy officiated.

Pallbearers were William Bacon, Ralph Corlett, Duane Schott, Earl Wilbur, Milo Moritz and James Cline. Mrs. Mona Whitver was the organist.

Interment was in the Smithfield Cemetery, Volney.

Mr. Konichek was born October 9, 1903, in Prairie Du Chien, WI, the son of William and Bertha Welsh Konichek. He attended rural schools in the area. He attained the age of 83 years, three months and four days.

On October 24, 1927, he was united in marriage to Harriet Entwisle at Austin, MN. To this union were born six children. They farmed in the Wadena area for 13 years, and then in the Castalia area for eight years. They moved to West Union in 1960, and John worked for area farmers.

In 1977, they moved to Grundy Center to be near their family. John and Harriet celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October of 1977.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet; four daughters, Mrs. Vera Cline of Decorah, Mrs. Dale (Jackie) Folkerts of Dike, Mrs. Calvin (Sandra) Kiewiet of Grundy Center and Mrs. Larry (Carol) Williams of Olathe, KS; two sons, John Gene Konichek of Fairbanks, AK and Norman Konichek of Eagle, WI; 26 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Leona Johnson of Rockford, IL and one brother, Donald Konichek of Dubuque.

The Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
