John Cook, a wealthy German aged 75 years, and father of J. W. Cook, Henry and Mrs. Emil Tschirgi, committed suicide at Reinbeck Tuesday afternoon of last week by taking strychnine. He had become despondent over the death of his wife, which occurred last spring, and had led a lonely life since. Although any of his children would have been glad to have him make his home with them, he preferred to live alone in his own house. He gave a letter to his grandson, John Cook, telling him to give it to his father, and with a revolver in hand warded him off while he drank the poison, and started at once for the cemetery intending to die by his wife's grave. He was followed as fast as they could get a team and doctor and was brought back to his son's where with the stomach pump and other means everything was done, but he passed away in the evening. He was conscious and told his sons it was no use, he was going to mother. The funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m.
