Called to His Last Home
The death of Mr. John Buchan occurred at his home in Clay township, last Friday morning, Nov. 1st. He had been suffering with kidney trouble for a long time but was confined to his bed only a few days when death relieved him. He was a pioneer settler of Grundy county and in his death the community loses one of its staunchest and most worthy citizens.
Deceased was born in Kimross Shire, Scotland, August 4, 1818. He united with the Presbyterian church at the early age of eighteen years. He crossed the ocean and came to Canada in May, 1841. He was married December 5th 1843, to Miss Jean L. Arnet, and to them ten children were born, all of whom are living. He came with his family to Grundy in 1870 and lived almost exclusively on the one place till the time of his death.
Funeral services were held from the family residence Sunday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. Palm of the Presbyterian church officiating. The remains were interred in the Grundy Center cemetery and were followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of sympathizing friends.
As a husband, father and brother he will be greatly missed for the absence of his devotion to his loved ones and his place in the family circle can never be filled by another. He was a good neighbor and a faithful friend and he has gone home to await the coming of his aged companion who is left to mourn the separation only a few short years at most. Those left behind are: one brother, George Buchan of Bright, Ont., and one sister Mrs. Margaret Rossel of Norway, Iowa, who was with him during his last hours; his devoted wife; his ten children Christena Ray of Cedar Falls; Andrew of Fairmont, Minn.; Wilham of Fullerton, Neb.; John of Reinbeck, Ia.; David B. of Gladbrook, Ia.; James of Montana and Michael A., George Alexander, Robert and Henry all of Grundy Center.
