An Old and Highly Respected Citizen of Lincoln Township Passes Away

Mr. C. E. Dirks, an old resident of Lincoln township, died very suddenly Sunday at 5:30 a.m. Mr. Dirks was born in the city of Emden, Ostfriesland, on the 18th day of April, 1824, and was united in marriage to his now mourning wife on the first day of May, 1849. In April, 1870, he moved to Shannon, Ill., with his wife and six small children, where he began farming. On the 26th day of February, 1875, he came to Lincoln township, Grundy county, and remained here until the time of his death. A wife, six grown children and twenty-one grandchildren survive him. The funeral was held on Tuesday, Revs. VanderLas, Plesher and Bieger officiating, and the remains were followed by a large number of friends to their last resting place in the cemetery at the VanderLas church.
