Martha A. Curtis was born at Stratford, N. H., May 10, 1830. She was married to H. C. Plumley August 5, 1866 and moved to Marshall county, Iowa, in April of 1872. In 1873 she moved to Grundy county where she resided till her death. She was converted in her early youth and became connected with the Freewill Baptist church. On account of ill health, she never united with a church here, but always lived a true christian life. Twenty years an invalid, her deeds of love and charity were necessarily confined within the limits of her home circle and intimate friends. All that a loving and devoted mother's example can do for her children is left by her and her influence will serve a faithful purpose to them. She had been confined to her bed since last September and was a great sufferer till death released her at one o'clock a.m. January 22, 1895. She bore her bodily pains with christian fortitude and courage, knowing that the time was at hand when she should "depart and be with Christ, which is far better," than to remain an earthly sufferer. Her husband and children have in her death, a precious tie that binds them to the better land. Her funeral was conducted by Rev. Smith at the M. E. church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and the remains were interred in Fairview cemetery, and were followed by many sympathizing friends. Deceased leaves to mourn her death, a husband and three daughters: Mrs. C. F. Baily of Redlands, Cal., who was unable to be present; Mrs. W. C. Warner of Parkersburg, Ia., and Mrs. J. C. Adams of Norfolk, Neb. Our sympathies are with them in their bereavement.
