At the residence of her son, Mr. I. N. Shirk, Palermo township, Friday, May 12, 1893, of dropsy, aged 65 years, 5 months and 7 days.

Mary B. Miller was born in Franklin county, Penn., December 25[sic], 1827. Was married October 22, 1850, to John S. Shirk, who survives her. Moved west to Mt. Carroll, Ill., in 1857, and from there to Grundy county, Iowa, in 1870. The deceased was the mother of twelve children, nine of whom are living: Mrs. H. L. Simpson, Harry M. Shirk, W. S. Shirk, Mrs. J. W. Sayre, Mrs. B. T. Sherbon, P. M. Shirk, I. N. Shirk, Jesse M. Shirk and J. S. Shirk, Jr. She leaves two surviving brothers and one sister, I. N. Miller being with her at the time of her death. Mrs. Shirk has been an invalid for twenty years, but bore her suffering with fortitude. She joined the Dunkard church twenty-one years ago and has been a faithful and consistent member ever since. She was buried from the Melrose Dunkard church, Rev. H. P. Strickler officiating, followed by a large concourse of neighbors and friends thereby tendering their sympathy to the aged husband and sorrowing family.
