KONKEN, KALKWARF

Harm Konken, who has been a resident in this vicinity for nearly sixty years, passed away at his home last Monday evening November 10th at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 5 days. He was born in Germany, January 5th, 1857 and came to America in 1881, settling in this vicinity.

He was united in marriage to Miss Fannie Kalkwarf, September 10, 1883 and lived in this vicinity up to 26 years ago, when they retired from the farm and moved into Stout and continued to make their home until death called him.

The deceased was for many years a faithful member of the Reformed Church of Stout and always attended services as long as he was able. He also served the church as an Elder for some years and was Secretary and Treasurer of the Sunday School for many years.

Mr. and Mrs. Konken had the privilege of celebrating their Golden Wedding September 10, 1933.

The deceased has been in failing health the past year but suddenly became worse on November 1st. All that loved ones could do for him was done. He leaves to mourn his sad departure, his bereaved wife and the following nine children; Mrs. Fred Helmers, Marble Rock; Mrs. Geo. Hempen, Dike; John of Waverly; Mrs. Sam Cirksena, Holland; Mrs. John Ackerman, Mrs. Henry Wiltfang, Henry, Sam and Mrs. Hiller Bergman all of Parkersburg. Also twenty grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Responsible, sympathetic, loving and true, he enjoyed his family, his home and life about him. The memories of his devoted life will ever be cherished by those who knew him.

Short funeral services will be at the home Friday at 1 o'clock and later in the Reformed church conducted by the pastor Rev. W. J. Heyenga. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
