Wilke Groen died about 6:30 p.m. Thursday at his home at Ackley after a long illness from heart disease.

He was born in Germany on Oct. 20, 1852. He brought his family to the United States 40 years ago, settling on a farm in Grundy county, from which he and his wife came 14 years ago to Ackley to reside with a daughter, Mrs. Reika Grussing, in Ackley.

Surviving are the widow, two other daughters, four sons, 30 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The daughters are Mrs. Rudolph Meintz and Mrs. John Abbas, Ackley, and the sons, Matthew, northwest of Ackley; John, Parkersburg; Herman, Buck Grove, and Bernard, Clarksville.
