Homer passed peacefully on April 23rd, 2010 at his farm home near Reinbeck. Homer was 94. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 27 at 10:30 am at the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck with Pastor Joel Love officiating. Burial will follow the funeral services at the Reinbeck Cemetery. Visitation will be held on April 26, 2010 from 5 to 7 pm at the French Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck.

Homer was born October 22, 1915 to T.A. and Catherine Miller. Homer graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1932. On August 26, 1938 he married Margaret Robinson. They have three daughters -- Sharon, Barbara, and Marion.

During his entire working life, Homer and Margaret farmed where Homer had been born on his parents' farm near Reinbeck. Homer dearly loved and treasured his family. Grandchildren and great grandchildren knew well their Grandpa, spending time on the farm detasselling, learning to drive, fishing, hunting, and picnicking. He enjoyed reading, playing bridge, keeping a welcoming farmstead with gardening and flowers, and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved farming and the family farm. The farthest he ever moved, he would tell, was from the upstairs bedroom to a bedroom on the main floor of their farmhouse. Homer prized the good farmland of the Reinbeck area, and wondered aloud, when vacationing out west, how an acre of the Rocky Mountains could sell for anything at all. He actively farmed until 1998, growing Pioneer Seed for more than 50 years, and remained engaged in farming until his death.

Homer is survived by his wife Margaret; three daughters and sons-in-law Sharon and James Kempner, Barbara and Harry Ayer, and Marion and Jack Boyer; eight grand children including Sharon's children Bonnie (Lee), Karen, and Robert (Meaghan); Barbara's children Jeff (Catriona), Brian, and Adam (Denise); and Marion's children David and Rita (Eric); and by 11 great grandchildren including Karen's child Bonnie; Robert's children Wyatt and Miller; Jeff's children Gemma and Niles; Adam's children Tatiana and Daniela; and Rita's children Nolan, Cael, Molly, and Megan; and many friends and relatives.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents, brother Russell, infant son Robert, and his two sisters Leila Lovercheck and Evelyn Manning.
