Harry Cooley, 98, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Monday, January 11, 2010, at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck, Iowa. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 16, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck, Iowa, with Pastor Michael Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday, January 15, 2010, from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at French Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. A memorial fund has been established.
Harry Starr Cooley was born December 23, 1911, in Morrison, Iowa, the son of Alanzo and Elma (Starr) Cooley. He received his education by attending school in Morrison, Iowa. On December 6, 1939 he joined the U.S. Navy serving his country till he was discharged on October 9, 1941 because of a back injury.
Harry was united in marriage to Jessie Allgood in rural Iowa, on February 3, 1941. Harry and Jessie lived in Morrison, Iowa all their married life. Harry worked for many farmers after his discharge from the service. He then was employed at the Morrison Co-op for several years, the Beaman Co-op and Ritchie Mfg where he retired from in Dec. of 1972. After his retirement he continued to work odd jobs in the area. Harry was a long time member of The First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck. He was a member of the American Legion Action Post #242 of Reinbeck. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Harry is survived by his wife, Jessie of Reinbeck; children, Barbara Bolman and her husband Arnold of Dover, Delaware; William "Bill" Cooley and his wife Donna of Morrison; 6 grandchildren, Lynn (Patti) Bolman of Illinois; Ann (Mark) Essig of St. Joseph, MI; Lewis Bolman of St. Joseph, MI; Kelly (Chris) Dinsdale of Reinbeck; Angela (Chad) Kickbush of Reinbeck; Paul (Deb) Cooley of Grundy Center; 12 great grandchildren, Brenden and Bradley Bolman, Jonah Essig, Jon, Ben and Emily Dinsdale, Addison, Camden and Caden Kickbush, Josh, Rachel and Megan Cooley; 3 sisters, Claira Clair of Los Angeles, CA, Miriam Johnson of Minnesota and Zelda Minard of Waterloo.
Preceding him in death were his parents; 3 brothers, Logan, Delmar, Donald; three sisters, Doris Nichols, Lula Prescott and Mary Wical.
