Wilma J. Meyer, 90, of Marshalltown, formerly of Wellsburg, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at the Southridge Nursing & Rehab Center in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 30, 2009 10:30 at the First Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg. Visitation will be on Wednesday July 29, 2009 from 6 to 8 pm at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. Interment will be at the Shiloh Cemetery, Wellsburg.
Wilma was born on October 14, 1918 in Parkersburg, IA, the daughter of Herman & Dora (Van der Aarde) Reinicke. She was born and raised on a farm in Parkersburg, graduating from Parkersburg High School in 1937. She attended the Iowa State Teacher’s College where she received her teaching certificate. She met Harm Meyer and they were united in marriage on December 21, 1940 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. After the couple married, they farmed on the Weibe Meyer Dairy Farm for 2 years. Born to the couple were 3 children and they remained in Wellsburg for over 60 years. Wilma worked as a teacher for the Grundy County School District for 3 years, worked as a seamstress for Dodger’s Manufacturing in Eldora and was an Avon representative.
She is survived by her children Max (Elizabeth) Meyer of Marshalltown & Faye (John) Therrien of LaCanada, CA; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; sister Erma Lindaman of Reinbeck; sisters-in-law Angie Reinicke of Dike & Lavine Meyer of Marshalltown.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Harm; daughter Kaye Kienzle; siblings Vernon, Paul & Harold Reinicke & Ruby Weber.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the church.
